The next morning, a butler walked into Jeremy's room quietly with a soft knock on his door. Jeremy ignored the knock and chose to continue to sleep. The butler walked over to the window and pulled open the curtains, letting the sunlight pour into the room, landing on Jeremy’s face. Jeremy’s eyes barely opened into a glare as he rolled over and pulled his blankets over his head.
The butler gave a small sigh as he walked over and pulled the blankets off of Jeremy. Jeremy sleepily reached around for the blankets that had been pulled away from him. When he couldn’t find them he rolled onto his back and glared at the butler. “Go away and give me my blankets back,” he said grumpily.
“I’m sorry, Your Highness, but I can’t do that. Your mother wishes for you to join her for breakfast,” the butler said with a bow.
“Tell my mother that I am sick and can’t come down. Now let me sleep,” he said, grabbing the blankets from the butler and pulling them over himself, going back to sleep. The butler sighed as he walked out of the room, walking towards a young man, about the same age as Jeremy and tapped him on his shoulder.
“Alexander, your skills are required. The young master will not get up again,” he said as Alex turned to face him.
Alex gave a small smile as he laughed. “Herbert, I’ve told you to call me Alex. I hate Alexander and I’ll get him up,” he said as he hurried down the hallway to Jeremy’s room. Alex didn’t even bother to knock on the door, unlike most of the servants, and smiled evilly as he ran across the room and jumped onto Jeremy’s bed. “Jeremy!!! It’s time to get up!!” he said, very loudly and enthusiastically.
Jeremy, without looking, punched Alex in the stomach. “Go away, you imbecile,” he mumbled sleepily. “I don’t want to get up.”
Alex held his stomach lightly as he fell backwards on the bed. “You’ve gotten better at aiming without looking. Jeremy, you have to get up, you can’t just sleep forever. I hear that we got a rather cute new maid today,” he said quietly. Jeremy opened his eyes slightly as Alex mentioned the maid. “Too bad that you won’t be able to see her if you keep sleeping,” Alex continued, over dramatizing it.
“Oh shove it Alex. I’m getting up. I will not join my mother for breakfast though. I refuse to do that, she’ll just insist on telling me all of the things that I’ve done wrong and that I should fix. Which, to her, is everything I’ve ever done in my life,” Jeremy said as he pushed Alex off of his bed.
“I’m not going to force you to eat with her. I was just told to get you up, which is apparently the only thing I’m good for,” he said with a smile as he hit the ground.
“Trust me Alex; you are the only useful butler we have. The other ones are the ones that aren’t worth crap,” he said as he stood up. He walked over to his closet and opened the door and walked in. He pulled a pair of pants off a shelf and a T-shirt off of a hanger. He got dressed into those and pulled on a light jacket and wrapped a scarf around his neck loosely. He then pulled on a pair of tennis shoes and walked out of the closet. “Want to blow this Popsicle stand?” he asked as he leaned against the frame of his closet.
Alex smiled and nodded. “Of course,” he said, standing up from the ground and brushed off his clothes slightly. “Who wouldn’t want to get out of this house,” he laughed as he opened the door for Jeremy. Jeremy grabbed his car keys as he walked out of his room and walked down the hallway to the stairs, freezing immediately halfway down the stairs. Alex followed him and stopped short, and looked at Jeremy confused. “Hey, you okay?” Alex asked as he poked his side gently.
Jeremy looked down at the small crowd of people at the bottom of the stairs and immediately turned around and headed back up the stairs. Alex noticed the people and recognized one of the girls and laughed. “Ahahaha, you’re running away from your fiancĂ© and her family?” Alex said through his laughs.
Jeremy stopped shortly and turned around. “If you had to deal with her like I do. You would understand just how absolutely horrible she is,” he said before turning around again, only to be stopped by his mother's voice from the bottom of the stairs, just as he had reached the top of the stairs.
"Jeremy, where do you think you are going?" she said, sternly. Jeremy stopped and turned around, a false smile on his lips.
"I forgot something in my room. I was just heading back to get it before I continued back downstairs," he said quietly.
"I'm sure its not that important. Now come down here and join us for breakfast."
Jeremy sighed and nodded quietly as he started down the stairs, feeling as though he was a prisoner, headed towards his death. When he reached the bottom of the stairs, his fiancé walked over and looped her arm around his with a large smile placed on her lips. "Jeremy, honey, why are you wearing commoner clothing? You would look so much better in a suit. Do you not have any suits? Ah! I know, we are going to go shopping today for some suits for you," she said cheerfully, pulling him out of the house and towards her limousine. "We'll be back later!" she said, pushing him into the limousine forcefully, climbing in after him.
Once they limousine started to drive, she turned on him a slight glare in her eyes. "Why are you wearing commoner clothing? It looks horrible on you. If we are going to get married in the future, you need to look your social status. Not like you are some sort of peasant," she said coldly.
Jeremy glanced over at her briefly before looking away. "Amy, I wear them because they are comfortable and I hate suits. They are very restricting and I'd rather not stand out quite that much if at all possible," he replied, just as coldly.
"I know that you are being kept out of the press as much as possible, and that they don't know what you look like yet. Now wouldn't it just be absolutely horrible if a picture of you got leaked to the press along with your parents' marital problems?" she said with an evil smirk surfacing.
Jeremy glared over at her, not saying anything. Soon enough they arrived at the mall and Amy pulled Jeremy out of the limousine, dragging him into the mall, her bodyguards surrounding them. Amy pulled him into a very expensive suit and dress store. As Amy looked through suits, Jeremy glanced at her bodyguards and when they weren't looking quietly slipped out of the store. He wove through the crowds and hurried into a bookstore before the bodyguards found him. He wandered through the bookshelves quietly, looking at the books quietly.
